Pretty sweet
I got these tattoos done at the same time on 11.11.11 by Charles at Only You Tattoo in the Grant Park neighborhood of Atlanta, GA. They were my first, and I got them as a set because not only do their meanings complement each other, but they are diagonally balanced on my body. (I’m a libra…I like balance.)
The one on bottom that looks like a snowflake is a Vegvisir, which is a type of Viking compass. It is meant to guide the wearer through ‘rough weather’. It is said that whoever wears one will always find their way. Therefore, it is on my leading foot. I’ve wanted it for about 6 years, but failed to get it right after my high school graduation- now, I’m about to graduate college and decided that I’d like it to lead the way.
The one pictured on top that looks like a hat is an illustration from Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It represents, to me, all of the most important things that one must remember in life. At the beginning of the story, the narrator (an explorer) tells of how he drew this shape when he was 6 years old after having seen a picture in a book of a boa constrictor eating an animal. He showed his drawings to the adults, who disappointed him by not being terrified; for what he saw as a boa constrictor digesting an elephant, they saw as a hat. He says that he carried this drawing with him in all of his travels henceforth and showed it to people that he met so that he might determine if they were merely ‘grown ups’ or if they were as wise as he. It also represents, to him, truths that are hidden within all things. I’d like to remember, that wherever life takes me and however old I become, I must never entirely grown up and cease to see beauty and wonder in all things. Therefore, this simple shape is beneath my left collarbone- directly between my head and my heart.
When i was young, my mom and me were going for an walk into the forrest. it was absolutely nice. So i ‘ve seen this deer, and i was stuned all the time about this amazing animal. Thats the reason i wear him on my chest. forever.
